Centre for Research in Mathematics and Science Education
-
Led by Tony Brown and Yvette Solomon
The Centre for Research in Mathematics and Science Education involves a number of colleagues across the Institute with a variety of foci on learner and professional identities, teacher education, contemporary theory, children’s learning and gender issues in STEM subjects. The centre is located within the Institute of Education at Manchester Metropolitan University, which also houses the Science Learning Centre North West.
The Centre is one of the UK’s leading centres for international research publications in mathematics education. In July 2011 we are holding the Mathematics Education and Contemporary Theory conference, which will collect together a large number of international figures in this field. As part of this international network of mathematics education researchers, ESRI members have produced four edited collections, a double Special Issue of Educational Studies in Mathematics, an ESRC Seminar Series and three international conference symposia. Other external links include University College, Oslo where Yvette Solomon is Professor II in Mathematics Didactics, and SIGMA, the centre for mathematics and statistics support based at Coventry and Loughborough Universities.
